FAQ's
1. What day(s) will my child need to bring his or her instrument to school?
The students will always need to refer to their band schedule because their lesson days may change from week to week. This is necessary in order for the students not to miss the same subject from one week to the next. It is best to check the schedule the night before to save some time in the morning! Then you can set the instrument by the door so it's ready to pick up on the way out.
2. How long should my child practice at home?
I recommend a daily practice routine of between 10-15 minutes (more for the 5th graders). A little bit of practicing every day is much
more effective than an hour just on the weekend because daily practice helps the muscles develop and not tire, and the habits tend to
become more automatic with consistent, daily practice.
3. Will my child miss class to come to lessons?
Yes, your child will miss Related Arts, Content and Recess, but the schedule is on a 4 week rotation, so none of these classes
should be missed more than once a month. (There may be exceptions for 5th grade beginners, who will miss recess more often).
4. Will my child perform in a concert this year?
Yes! Every year, we perform two concerts, one in the winter and one in the spring. Your child will participate in both! The dates are:
TBA
5. Will my child get a grade in band?
Yes, there is a place for a band and strings grade on the academic report card. If you look at the grading policies tab on the website,
you will see the categories each student is graded on along with the percentage for each category.
6. What does my child need to bring to school for lessons?
For every lesson, your child should have an instrument and a book or music sheets. Your child will be given a band folder at the
first lesson to keep all his/her papers in. Please be sure they put their name on all the papers they receive! Also, for those students borrowing school instruments, there is a school loan agreement that needs to be signed and returned before the instrument can be taken home.
